We believe that when you choose to donate you deserve to know how we are spending your money. As we develop our programs and receive donations the numbers you see today may change, please check this page for the most current numbers. As no programs have been funded yet, these numbers are our best estimations given current trends in non-profit funding.
As part of making research more accessible, we have chosen not to run advertisements on any of the projects we operate. Any advertisements you experience on Piece of P.I. or Game with Grads do not result in compensation paid to us.

Direct Donation a.k.a Project #000
These donations go directly to Research in Reach, it funds our staff, our day to day operations, project maintenance, grant indirects, and development of our future projects.
What are indirects?
Indirects are additional funds sent to institutions to support administrative costs so that researchers could focus more time doing science and less time doing paperwork. Previously some NIH grants had provided upwards of 50% in indirect costs, now these costs are capped at 15%.
What does that mean?
Before
$100,000 grants at 50% indirects means $100,000 for science and $50,000 to provide additional support
Now
$100,000 grants at 15% indirects means $100,000 for science and $15,000 to provide additional support
Why is this important?
Financial paperwork, hiring paperwork, ordering supplies, negotiating deals with vendors, purchasing equipment, managing shipping, maintaining facilities, security, safety regulations, accounting, mandated trainings, and building management, are some of the things that are taken off the hands of the researcher with these costs. All of these require their own expertise and professionals that should be hired. Capping indirects at 15% means less research is done.
Corporate Donors
If you are donating as a company and we have not entered into an existing agreement, we ask that you register as a corporate account and donate to Project #000. In avoiding even the appearance of a conflict of interest in the corporate funding of research, you may not donate to individual projects. We will use the majority of your donated funds to provide indirect costs for the funded project proposals. We intend to provide 30% in indirect costs for grants. We anticipate based on our current model, at least 60% of your donation will go towards funding indirect costs for grants and 40% or less will go to support our operational costs.
Support a Scientist, Proposal Specific Donations a.k.a. Project #001-#999
With our current model we anticipate 85% of your donation will go directly to support the project you donate to and 15% will go to Research in Reach to support our operational costs.
These donations go directly to the institution that the researcher is located. It is packaged as a grant once every 6 months to support the proposed research. In the event the project is cut short either due to breach of the grant agreement, the researcher chooses to withdraw their project, we are unable to reach the institution and researcher, or the researcher becomes unavailable to conduct their proposal, any unused donated funds will be sent to Project #000.
As we grow and develop, this number will shift until we find a sustainable equilibrium. As more donations come in we anticipate we will need to take a smaller percentage to sustain the model.
Game with Grad Donations a.k.a Twitch
100% of the donations that are received from the Twitch stream will go to support Research in Reach’s operational costs.
We have do not to run any advertisements on Game with Grads. Any advertisements you experience on twitch.tv do not benefit us and we do not receive any compensation for them.
